Gather supplies

A thrifted picture frame of any size 

Chicken wire 

Staple gun (and staples) 

Paint of your choice (optional) 

Clothespins 

Wire cutter (for trimming the chicken wire) 

Start by selecting a picture frame from your local Goodwill NCW. Don’t worry about the color or finish – that can be changed! Remove the glass and backing from the frame, setting them aside for future projects or recycling.

Paint the Frame (Optional). If you want to add a pop of color or refresh the frame, now is the time. Give it a good clean and then paint it in your chosen color. Allow it to dry completely before moving to the next step.

Measure the opening of your frame and cut a piece of chicken wire to fit using wire cutters. Be sure to cut the wire slightly larger than the opening to have enough wire to staple to the frame. Using the staple gun, carefully attach the chicken wire to the back of the frame, pulling it taut as you go. Ensure the wire is securely fastened.

Once the chicken wire is attached, use your wire cutters to trim any excess wire from around the edges. Be careful of sharp edges and consider folding them down or covering them with tape for safety.

Now for the fun part! Use clothespins to attach photos, notes, messages, or even earrings to the chicken wire. This DIY frame allows you to easily swap out items whenever you want to update your display.

Your DIY Chicken Wire Picture Frame is ready to be displayed. Hang it on a wall, lean it on a shelf or place it on a desk. It’s a perfect addition to any room and a great way to keep your cherished memories and important notes in sight.
