Daniel, a U.S. Army veteran and former corrections and security officer, came to Goodwill NCW in 2018 as a Senior Aid through the Wisconsin Senior Employment Program (WISE). WISE is an employment training program for low-income, unemployed individuals aged 55 and older. Dan worked as a Senior Aid for several years until his program came to an end, at which point he worked with his leader at Goodwill to plan his next steps. He was offered and accepted a temporary position as an office assistant in partnership with Green Bay WISE while he learned about his employment options and was ultimately hired by Goodwill as a permanent part-time team member.
Throughout his time with Goodwill NCW, Daniel received counseling services from the Financial Wellness department on a variety of topics. He learned how to budget his finances and money management strategies. Earlier this year he received a benefit analysis to assess his allowable work, and it was determined that he was able to work additional hours and still maintain his current benefits. A Goodwill Employment Placement Specialist helped him with updating his resume and searching for additional work in the community. Ultimately Daniel decided he wanted to remain here at Goodwill, and is pleased to announce that he will be dedicating his full 20 hours of allowable work as a team member at the Neenah Goodwill store starting this month, helping him achieve his goal of improved financial stability.
“I am very appreciative of Goodwill NCW for allowing me to work here in several roles and I feel like I would not have had the same opportunities with another employer.” Daniel says.
Daniel and his story are a powerful example of our mission in action, and we are proud to be a part of his continued journey.
