Fall is finally here, which means you’re probably starting to make some changes to your wardrobe! If you are thinking of adding a few pieces to your closet, here are some trends that are shaping the fall fashion landscape this season to be on the hunt for.

“Town and Country”

This trend (which feels more like a classic) is all about an English heritage look. A fox hunting on horseback with your royal friends on a foggy morning kind of vibe. This look is based on classic patterns like plaids, checks, tweeds, and tartans, and timeless silhouettes like turtlenecks, pencil skirts, and blazers. Throw on a pair of “wellies” and you’re ready to go! Heritage brands usually come with price tags that are out of reach for many, but at Goodwill NCW, you can often find them for a fraction of what they cost new!

Upscale Athleisure

Remember the tracksuits of the early 2000s? They’re baaaaack. But instead of the low-rise hip huggers and fleece lined boot combo that was popular back then, this time around the look comes with a bit more refinement. Think sweatpants with a more relaxed fit and elastic cuff and funnel neck sweatshirts instead of hoodies. The key to this look is to be comfortable but styled. Upgrade your fit by adding some fun gold bangles, sunglasses, trendy sneakers, or a cute bag.

Academia

This is another trend that comes back so often that it feels like a classic. It’s a nod to an ivy league grad school look, with staples like V-neck vests, khakis, wool pencil skirts, polos, and loafers. Add a leather tote and some tortoiseshell glasses and you’re ready to go! To avoid looking too “themed” just pick one or two or these items and mix them with items you already own.

Purple

When you think of fall, you probably think of neutral colors and earthy tones. But this year deep purple reigned supreme on the runway! We’re not talking about a purple dinosaur shade here though, we’re talking rich, deep, eggplant purple. “Aubergine” if you want to feel fancy. You can add this color to your wardrobe in really any way…a soft cashmere sweater, a pair of plum trousers, a rich trench coat, or with a fun accessory like a pair of shoes or a bag.

Equestrian Boho

This look is all about balancing masculine/utilitarian pieces with delicate/romantic pieces. Pair a flowy, floral dress with cowboy boots or a worn denim or leather jacket, or throw on a pair of bootcut jeans paired with flowy top and a slouchy velvet boho bag. Bonus points if you can find a fun, fringed vest!

Lace

This trend speaks for itself! Lace was all over the runway this year, and it’s a great way to add a soft, romantic touch to your wardrobe. You can go bold with a lace dress or skirt or add lace in more subtle ways like a lace clutch or a lace trimmed camisole. Balance out these soft and sweet details with edgier pieces like a leather jacket or structured trench.

As you refresh your wardrobe with this season’s top trends, consider shopping secondhand at Goodwill NCW. Not only can you discover unique, high-quality pieces at a fraction of the original cost, but you’re also making a sustainable choice that benefits both the planet and your community. Fashion trends may change with the seasons, but sustainability is always in style!
