7 trends you can thrift header image

By the end of summer, I’m ready to throw my shorts and tanks to the back of my closet and bring my sweaters and cozy outfits forward! Fall is my favorite season for many reasons – the weather, the activities, the overall cozy vibes, and more. As the leaves fall, it marks a season of change. So, it’s the perfect time to shake up your wardrobe and try new things!

In preparation for fall 2024, I’ve been reading fashion blogs, scrolling Instagram for #OOTD ideas, and clicking around Pinterest. I like to gather inspiration for what I hope to find before I go thrifting at Goodwill NCW. It helps me to focus my hunt for fashion treasures!

This year, I feel like there are a lot of unique trends anticipated for fall. I truly believe there is something for everyone! Read on for 7 trends that you can thrift.

According to The Everymom, turtlenecks are a trend to keep in mind. Recent designer collections have included both high necklines and turtlenecks. I love this trend because it’s fairly timeless! Also, turtlenecks are a classy basic that you may find while browsing Goodwill NCW’s store racks.

Another trend that The Everymom calls out for fall 2024 is animal print. Think: snakeskin, cheetah print, zebra print, etc.! Here’s your opportunity to rock a statement jacket or a cool new-to-you pair of boots this fall.

Refinery 29 says “Girly Girls” are trending as the air becomes more crisp. When I hear this, I immediately think of pink, ruffles, and bows. On one of my recent thrift shopping trips, I scored a baby pink corduroy jacket, so you already know that I’ll be wearing it this fall.

Blogger Jo-Lynne Shane’s “in” list for fall includes wide-leg jeans. As she states, they can be very elongating and flattering! Personally, I’m a big fan of bell-bottom denim.

Pro tip: If you find a great pair of jeans while thrifting but they are too long, try this raw hem DIY!

In addition to the trends I’ve listed above, here are a few others to be on the lookout for:

  • Pops of Red: Use red accessories like belts, bags or sport a statement pair of red shoes!
  • Long Skirts: Try to find skirts with strong structure or multiple layers for a wow factor.
  • Asymmetric Style: Find a one-shoulder top or dress that creates an interesting angle.

See what I said – there’s something for everyone!

With seasonal trends, you don’t have to feel pressure to try them all. I like to pick 1 or 2 and challenge myself to give it a go. Also, trends don’t need to dictate your entire wardrobe. I simply like to use current trends as opportunities to learn more about my personal style. It’s great when you can try a trend, put your twist on it, and turn it into something more timeless for you and your style.

Remember what I said about gathering inspiration before I thrift? In addition to looking for new ideas, I look at my current closet before I go thrifting. Then, when I find new-to-me pieces that I love at Goodwill NCW, I can think about how they will complement the pieces that I already have. This has really helped me to better define my personal style!

So, I challenge you – take a look at your closet, get inspired, and head to your local Goodwill NCW store to experiment with these 7 trends that you can thrift. This fall, it’s time to (pumpkin) spice up your wardrobe!
