Megan joined Goodwill NCW through a work experience program at the Rib Mountain Goodwill Store. As someone who is legally blind, she has previously faced significant challenges in finding sustained, meaningful employment. This program marked her first experience in a retail role, and it hasn’t come without obstacles.
Megan’s position involves ticketing hardlines, which required her to learn to identify a wide variety of materials using only her sense of touch. Initially, she struggled with organization, which made this task even more challenging. But over time, Megan developed systems to better organize her workspace. These changes significantly improved her speed and efficiency, so much so that she became one of the top ticketers at her store. She’s now proud to take on a higher ticket quota.
But Megan’s growth goes far beyond speed and productivity.

Store Team Leader Melissa recalls that when Megan first started, she was very shy, often kept to herself, and lacked confidence. As her skills improved, so did her self-assurance. Megan began building relationships with her teammates and became a more active part of the team.
“Since she’s opened up with the team,” Melissa shared, “I’ve noticed a fair number of the quieter team members start opening up to Megan as well. It’s been really neat to see. There’s been growth in others’ communication skills too, and it’s like they’re doing it together.”
Now a valued team member at the Rib Mountain store, Megan has also strengthened her financial stability, something that’s deeply important to her. She’s able to save for unexpected expenses and is even setting money aside for retirement.
“Megan’s life has been transformed through Goodwill by achieving greater independence,’ states Employment Placement Specialist, Milo. “By being able to transition into permanent employment, it gives her financial stability to be able to make the choices in her life that she wants to.”
Megan’s journey at Goodwill NCW illustrates how the right support and determination can lead to meaningful change. From building job skills to gaining confidence and increased financial stability, she’s become a valued team member and a source of inspiration for others.
