DIY Belt Bag Project Steps

Welcome to our DIY blog! Today, we’ll show you how to upcycle a thrifted wallet from your local Goodwill NCW store into a chic belt bag. Follow these simple steps to create a unique accessory that’s both stylish and functional.

Materials Needed

  • Thrifted Wallet
  • Thrifted Belt: Pick one that complements your wallet
  • Scissors
  • X-Acto Knife

01

Trim the Wrist Loop (Optional)

If your wallet has a wrist loop and you prefer a pull instead, trim the wrist loop using scissors. This gives the wallet a cleaner look and makes it easier to handle as a belt bag.

02

Mark the Belt Placement

On the back of the wallet, mark where you want the belt to go. Ensure the belt will sit evenly and comfortably around your waist or hip.

03

Cut Holes for the Belt

Using an X-Acto knife, gently cut holes at the marked spots on the wallet. Make sure the holes are clear and large enough for the belt to fit through but not too big so that they compromise the wallet’s structure.

04

Reinforce Edges

Use your scrap fabric or leather to reinforce the edges of the holes. This step helps hide the rough edges and prevents rips, ensuring the belt bag remains durable. Attach the scraps using fabric glue or by sewing them into place.

05

Fit the Belt Through the Loops

Thread your belt through the newly cut holes in the wallet. Adjust the fit to ensure the wallet sits securely and comfortably. Make any necessary adjustments to the holes or the belt length for a perfect fit.

06

Fill It Up and Go!

Once everything is in place, fill your new belt bag with your essentials. Whether it’s your phone, keys, or wallet, ensure everything fits securely. Strap on your new belt bag and you’re ready to go!
