DIY Shabby chic pillow Project Steps
Supplies needed:
- Throw pillow
- Lace item (We used a skirt with lace fabric, but you also can find shirts, scarves and home linens with similar fabric.)
- Pillowcase
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Needle
- Thread
01
Remove price tags from your items and launder them.
02
Lay out your pillowcase, with the folds on the top and bottom. Set your pillow on top. Cut the pillowcase fabric on the sides to fit the size of the pillow. We’re cutting down on the “length” of the pillowcase but keeping the top and bottom seams intact.
03
Gather lace from your garment to use on the edges of the pillowcase. Trim these to the length of your edges.
04
Make a small cut along the bottom of the pillowcase. We will use this when we reassemble to put in the pillow.
05
Turn the pillowcase inside out and insert the lace along the seamline, sandwiching it between the front and the back of the pillowcase. Pin the bottom portion of the lace into the seam along the edges of the pillowcase.
06
While it’s still inside out, sew the edges of the pillowcase.
07
Turn the pillowcase right side out and insert the pillow through the opening we made earlier in step four.
08
Using needle and thread, sew the pillowcase closed with a blanket stitch.
