Kyla first came to the Plover Goodwill Store in 2019 for a two-month Temporary Work Experience program and returned in 2023 for an 18-month program through Inclusa. As a person who uses a wheelchair and has some physical limitations, Kyla has experienced barriers to employment but was seeking an opportunity to build her skills and gain experience in a work setting.

In her time as a program participant, Kyla has learned about the various requirements of a production role at Goodwill, as well as general workplace expectations. She has strengthened her work readiness skills, such as maintaining good attendance and maintaining focus on work tasks.

“She is definitely an important part of our hardlines ticketing team, and it’s been great to see her independence grow in her time with us,” Plover Production Team Leader Dan Ennis said of Kyla.

As of March 2025, Kyla has been working at the Sunflower Café in Stevens Point, wiping down menus and cleaning tables. She enjoys what she’s doing and continues to build her skills in the workplace.

“I liked coming to work at Goodwill and am now excited about future work opportunities.” Kyla said. “I’m proud of becoming more responsible, learning to stay off my phone and learning new skills.”

Kyla’s story illustrates that a willingness to learn new skills can help to overcome barriers and build opportunities for the future. To learn more about our employment services, Employment Services at Goodwill NCW | Goodwill NCW.
