Meet Catherine
Catherine joined the Group Supported Employment (GSE) program in April 2023 and was one of the first participants placed at Thrivent’s Meade Operations Center. In this temporary, skill-building role designed to prepare individuals for long-term employment, Catherine has truly excelled. She quickly learned new tasks, consistently met her goals, and steadily gained confidence. That confidence has grown into leadership, as she now mentors peers and takes responsibility for quality control, an important focus at Thrivent.
Thanks to her strong performance, Catherine became the first participant to advance to a Tier 2 role within the program. Her journey reflects the power of inclusive training opportunities and the impact of the Thrivent and Goodwill NCW partnership in helping individuals build skills, grow their confidence, and take meaningful steps toward future employment success.
Meet Blake – Maximizing his Second Chance through the Power of Employment
Blake came to Career EXCELerate seeking more than a job; he was looking for a second chance after overcoming addiction. Through comprehensive support, skills training, and personal encouragement, Career EXCELerate helped him regain confidence and build a new path. Blake chose the welding pathway and discovered a passion for hands-on work and thrived with the guidance of supportive instructors. In a speech to his peers at the Career EXCELerate completion ceremony, Blake said, “We’ve emerged from this with a new set of skills that can truly change the trajectory of our lives. Welding didn’t just teach us how to work with metal, it has given us a new found confidence, creativity, and a new direction. No matter where we go from here, we have proven something to ourselves that’s invaluable. We are capable of far more than we ever imagined.” Now employed as a welder at Fourinox, Blake continues to grow his career with company-sponsored education.
Meet Noah, Our Edgar J. Helms Achiever of the Year!
Noah has overcome extraordinary health challenges, including multiple life-threatening conditions and several neurosurgeries by the age of 14. These struggles impacted his ability to communicate, remember, and learn new tasks, but they didn’t define his future. With determination and support from Goodwill NCW’s School-to-Work program, Noah began building skills and confidence at the Ashwaubenon Goodwill store. Today, he’s a full-time team member, earning a steady paycheck, receiving benefits, and achieving major life goals like buying a car and saving for retirement. His story is a powerful testament to resilience and the impact of meaningful opportunity.
More than 26,000 hours of on-the-job training
Thanks to your purchases and donations, Goodwill NCW was able to provide nearly 26000 hours of on-the-job training through work experiences in the Bay Area region in 2024. We provide employment services and pathways for people who are underserved, underrepresented or disadvantaged who have a goal of building job skills that lead to sustained employment and improved financial stability. We are passionate about empowering people to grow and thrive through the power of work.
