Zach came to Goodwill NCW through a partnership with L.I.F.E. Academy in Green Bay and the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. He lost his job just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and had difficulty finding employment in the years since. Because of the resulting financial strain this placed on him as well as some personal struggles, Zach had been staying at a local shelter.
In June 2024, Zach was placed in a three-month Work Experience Internship at the Green Bay West Goodwill Store, where he was trained in a variety of tasks. While eager to try new things and learn as much as possible, he initially struggled with confidence in his work and was shy around others. With self-determination, and strong leadership, communication, and direction from his leadership team, Zach grew to thrive in the Donor Greeter role.
“I was having a very hard time finding work and moving forward in my life,” Zach explains, “but the leaders at Goodwill were very patient with me and gave me lots of opportunities to learn new things.”
Zach applied for a permanent team member position and began his job as a member of the Donor Greeter team just one week after his internship was completed. He achieved his goal of finding employment to improve his financial stability. He now has his own apartment, is learning new roles and job duties at the store and loves his job at Goodwill.
“Zach worked very hard to learn how to work in donations, and he was happy to learn everything he could. I am very proud of Zach and his great strides in the last six months!” said Production Team Leader, Crystal.
Great job, Zach!
