Décor that feels personal doesn’t have to come from a big-box store. With a few thrifted frames, old books, and flowers from your own garden, you can create artwork that’s soft, layered and completely one of a kind.

At Goodwill NCW, it’s easy to find the pieces that bring this project to life while keeping your budget in check.

DIY Pressed Flower Art Project Steps

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Picture frames (any style or size)
  • Book (for page backgrounds)
  • Fresh flowers, greenery or grasses (from your garden)
  • Heavy books or a flower press (for pressing flowers)
  • Scissors

01

Start with the Frame

Thrifted frames set the stage for your design. Look for a mix of sizes and styles, whether that’s vintage-inspired details, classic wood tones or simple modern shapes.

You can leave them as-is for an eclectic look or paint them to match your space. Either way, each frame becomes a canvas for your creativity.

02

Create Your Backdrop with Book Pages

Instead of letting old books sit on a shelf, give them a new purpose. Gently remove pages to use as the background inside your frame.

Choose pages with soft aging, interesting text or subtle illustrations. The natural texture and tone of the paper create a warm, vintage-inspired backdrop that makes your design feel layered and intentional.

Trim the pages to fit your frame or overlap a few for added dimension.

03

Add Pressed Flowers from Your Garden

Fresh flowers from your garden can be transformed into delicate, lasting decor. Press your flowers by placing them between book pages and stacking weight on top for about one to two weeks.

Once dried, arrange them directly onto your book page backdrop. You can keep it minimal with a single stem or create a more detailed composition with multiple blooms and greenery.

Each piece will be unique, shaped by what’s growing right outside your door.

04

Assemble Your Art

Place your book page inside the frame, then carefully arrange your pressed flowers on top. Once you’re happy with the layout, secure everything with the glass or backing of the frame.

The combination of text, texture and natural elements creates a soft, timeless look that works in any room.

05

Style Your Space

Display your finished pieces on a gallery wall, layer them on a shelf or lean them on a mantel for an effortless feel.

Mix different frame sizes and flower styles to create a collection that feels curated over time.
